Ready your swords, there's a PvP tournament coming. I'm going to set it on 6th July at 9:00PM GMT. Try be on around 20 mins before it so we can set up!
Things that need to be decided:
Rules:
How is the winner going to be decided? What items are banned? Free for all, 1v1 or teams? Okay, the majority of people want a team game. CTF has been suggested and I think that's a good game mode.
Place:
We need an arena. Let's try get one up for the date! Looks like PeanutTheMan is giving us his temporary arena for a day! We may still want to build one though.

Everyone should take a iron sword and bow with 64 arrows. Last man standing wins

synergy8310, people would have problems getting leather. But that would be ok too.

Well potions would add an interesting element, but some are rather strong. For example: Strength I: 1 and a half hearts (Additive) Strength II: 3 hearts (Additive) Invisibility: Well, invisibility (3:00; 8:00) Instant Damage I: 3 hearts (Instant) Instant Damage II: 6 hearts (Instant)
Other effects are present as well: Enchanted Golden Apple Gives the following effects; - Absorption (2:00) - Regeneration V (0:30) - Fire Resistance (5:00) - Resistance (5:00)
Some of these effects, such as Fire Resistance are not so useful, whereas Resistance gives a full 20% reduction of ALL DAMAGE received, before armor effects or absorption (if applicable). Potions of Harming and Poison are reduced by the Protection series of armor enchantments, although my a minor degree, but it's at least something to note. As well, instant health and regeneration potions have been nerfed as of 1.6, so those are hardly counters.
Just figured I should pop this in here for insight aside from simply saying which armor or enchantments should be prevented, given what else has been banned out. Perhaps taking a look at standard HCF restrictions would be a smart way to play it aside from standardized tools. The restrictions are as follows; Protection: 2 Thorns: 1 Blast/ Projectile protection: 4 Feather Falling: 4 Unbreaking: 3 Respiration: 3 Aqua Affinity: 1 Sharpness: 1 Knockback: 2 Bane of Useless: 5 Power: 3 Punch: 2 Infinity: 1 Flame: 1
Tl;dr, Certain items counter other items, and if you take them out, it can leave something really powerful open for choice.

A lot of good points. Will it be our own items that we have by that time or are we going to distribute armour equally for the event?

That's the thing, were we to distribute it, balance would be a lot easier, but it takes away a level of strategy, strength and weakness, and choice for preference of fighting style. The arena matters as well in these regards, the more unique the arena, the more we can afford to standardize and keep the same level of diversity.

Indeed, although with players pulling together a set of equipment for the week's tournament, we can have more of a "Who can defeat the reigning champion" kind of tournament. I like that quite a bit. It gives players in insentive to save up.

I highly recommend not doing this, because I have overpowered combos that make me invincible.
